JOSIE HO

Josie Ho is an award-winning Hong Kong actor, producer, musician and cultural figure whose career has spanned international cinema, independent filmmaking, music, fashion and the arts for more than three decades.

In 2026, Josie was honoured with the Fantastic Icon Award at the 30th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN), recognising her distinctive contribution to genre cinema and a career defined by creative risk-taking and experimentation.

The festival also hosted the world premiere of Josie's latest film, The Mage, a supernatural mystery from the Pang Brothers in which she stars as Lan, a medium drawn into an investigation into a series of unexplained deaths. Combining genre filmmaking with social commentary on contemporary Hong Kong, the project continues Josie's long-standing commitment to bold and unconventional storytelling.

Since making her screen debut in 1994, Josie has appeared in more than 50 films, building a body of work that moves between Hollywood productions, Asian independent cinema and cult genre films. Her international credits include Steven Soderbergh's Contagion, Roger Avary's Lucky Day and Edge of the World, which she co-produced and starred in alongside Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

Behind the camera, Josie has become an equally passionate champion of independent filmmaking. Through 852 Films, the production company she founded with Conroy Chan and Andrew Ooi, she has helped develop and support original filmmaking and emerging creative talent, with a particular focus on projects prepared to challenge convention.

Music remains another defining part of Josie's creative identity. She is the lead singer and songwriter of Josie and the Uni Boys, one of Hong Kong's best-known underground rock bands, and her longstanding relationship with music and counterculture has frequently crossed into her work in film, fashion and visual art.

Her wider creative projects have included documentary filmmaking and collaborations spanning photography, fashion and contemporary culture. She created the documentary Finding Bliss: Fire and Ice, filmed in Iceland, and has collaborated with legendary photographer and muse Pattie Boyd around an exhibition exploring Boyd's extraordinary archive of photographs documenting The Beatles, Eric Clapton and the era of Swinging London.
